Before submission, you must read the following rules, terms and legal conditions.

  1. Eligibility:

This Campaign is open to anyone over the age of majority but is void where prohibited in the Entrant’s country of residence. By participating in this Campaign, the Entrant fully and unconditionally agrees to and accepts the terms and conditions and the decisions of the editors of Urban Vignettes (‘the Team’), which are final and binding. No purchase or payment is involved in this Campaign.

  1. Guidelines for eligible photos and other forms of visual material:

Photos and other forms of visual material (e.g. drawings) must be in digital format. (Photos can be taken with a digital camera; we also accept scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints.) Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Campaign.

Your visual illustration (e.g. photographic image, drawing) must:

  • be proportional to standard photo size (rectangular shape strongly encouraged);
  • have an image resolution of at least 1,200 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,200 pixels tall (if a vertical image) at a minimum of 72 dpi (Generally, a 3.1-megapixel camera or better should be able to take photos that fit these requirements);
  • be saved in JPEG or JPG format at a normal/high quality setting; and
  • be of an uncompressed file size of 5 megabytes or smaller.

You are advised to clearly state the location the image was taken.

If you want to add a watermark to your visual material (normally photographs) to identify it as your own work, please put the text (your name and date/year created) in one single line at the bottom right corner and use this specific format: font style of Times New Roman, italic, font size of 10pt, text colour in either black or white (depending on the illustration’s background colour to ensure the clarity of both the illustration and the watermark) (e.g. Robert Lee, 27 April, 2012).

  1. Terms of your photographic and visual work:

Photographs and visual illustrations that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud. When capturing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person’s art.

The photograph or visual illustration, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Entrant. By entering the Campaign, the Entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted material is an original work created solely by the Entrant, that the material does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the material.

If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted if this is a legal requirement in your jurisdiction, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to Urban Vignettes upon request. You must not submit illustrations that involve the willful harassment of wildlife, damage to the environment by the Entrant, put any individual or animal in danger, or infringe on the rights of any other artist or person.

The illustration must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the Team, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.

All illustrations should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimisation (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) may not be accepted.

Illustrations that do not meet these requirements may or may not be used at the Team’s sole discretion.

By submitting your illustration(s) to this Campaign, you agree that Urban Vignettes has the right to edit and resize the photographic and/or visual material as needed (e.g. using Instagram filers), is under no obligation to publish your submission, and may use your illustration(s), with proper credit given, in any of our future marketing materials (e.g. re-posting on social networking webpages).

  1. Notification, publishing policy, and request for amendment:

Upon submission, you will be notified by email once it has been reviewed by our editors. If accepted, your blog post will be published on our website (upon minor editing).

We will publish a maximum of one accepted submission per contributor per month. This is in order to have a fair variety of contributors featured on the website. If you have more than one accepted submission in a month, your second and subsequent accepted submissions will be scheduled for publication in the subsequent months.

Please visit the website and check your post. If you find any errors or discrepancies in the post, please kindly let us know via email as soon as possible.

  1. Publicity and privacy:

All rights to the images and other forms of visual material submitted by the Entrant remain with the original copyright holder (normally the respective Entrant). Urban Vignettes supports the Artists Bill of Rights to protect the rights of creators of photographs and other visual art work.

However, submission of an entry constitutes consent and agreement by the Entrant and any person that is recognisable from the photographic and/or visual illustration(s) to a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license for Urban Vignettes to use, display, distribute, reproduce, adjust or crop their image on Urban Vignettes’ website and/or potentially other places, for instance but not limited to, a book, magazine or publication, public posters and social media events, for editorial, advertising, publicity, marketing and promotional purposes, without further compensation.

The Entrant accepts that any photographic and visual material submitted may be used by Urban Vignettes to allow viewers to view the material on the Website on a computer screen or a mobile device, and to store such pages in electronic form on a disk or mobile device for personal, non-commercial use only.

The Entrant may later revoke consent to these editorial and promotional purposes at any time emailing Urban Vignettes at

Urban Vignettes is not responsible for incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete entry of information by entrants; lost entries or transmissions, interrupted or unavailable network, server, or other connections; scrambled transmissions or other errors or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, or electronic, technical malfunctions or the computer hardware, software, or any combination thereof; or problems associated with any virus or any other damage caused to entrants’ systems. Urban Vignettes is not responsible for any technical problems related to online entries. Proof of sending will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Urban VignettesUrban Vignettes is not liable for lost, stolen, misdirected or late entries.

Urban Vignettes reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate this Campaign for any reason, including in the event that it becomes infected by a computer virus or is otherwise technically impaired or if this Campaign cannot be conducted as planned by causes beyond the control of Urban Vignettes.

Urban Vignettes reserves the right to disqualify any entrant found tampering with the entry process or with the operation of this Campaign or who violates these official rules. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage or undermine the legitimate operation of this Campaign may be in violation of criminal and civil laws and will result in disqualification of such entrant.

  1. Viruses:

The Entrant agrees not to upload, post or transmit any materials which contain any computer viruses, works, Trojan horses or other harmful component or programming routines that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information.

  1. Liability and law:

By entering this Campaign, the Entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions. The Entrant agrees to release Urban Vignettes, its editors, and its Sponsor from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in this Campaign.

This Campaign is governed by the internal laws of the United Kingdom, without regard to or application of its conflict of laws rules. The exclusive venue and jurisdiction for any action arising out of or relating to this Campaign shall be in the courts of the United Kingdom.
